Jaehun Class of 2023
Jaehun (Class of 2023) is from Fort Wayne with interests in history and the sciences. He has made a name for himself at the Academy as the President of the Asian Student Union, founder of the Academy’s Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapter, and peer assistant.
Jaehun’s inspiration for getting involved started with the ability to create his own clubs and led him to think, “Maybe for once I will try something new.” The Academy’s support for starting different clubs allowed Jaehun to explore his interests in an open environment. Although he did not start the official DECA club, an organization for students interested in marketing, communications, or business careers, he was able to be a founder of the current Academy chapter. He was also able to join clubs started or continued by other students such as the Asian Student Union, of which he is president, Bible study club, of which he is the president, and the Key Club, of which he is secretary.
Not only is Jaehun a dedicated student, he is also an athlete and an active community member. As a soccer player, member of the National Honors Society, and peer assistant, he is constantly interacting with his peers and serving his community through mentorship and volunteering. With the National Honors Society, he participated in service events such as the Walk a Mile in my Shoes walk to benefit Muncie Mission Ministries and creating cards to send to children in the hospital through the Cards for Hospitalized Kids organization.
Although Jaehun has enjoyed his time at the Academy, he thinks he might have missed out on some opportunities at Ball State. Academy students can take certain BSU classes and use the facilities. “I think that was one of the resources I didn’t use to the fullest.” Jaehun took a German class at Ball State and enjoyed getting to connect with the students and faculty while improving his language skills.
The Academy also helped Jaehun with his leadership skills, learning from those around him, and while making a name for himself as an active student and campus leader, he has appreciated the resources provided to him at the Academy. “There’re all these resources, all these people. If you use it, it’s a great opportunity.”
Jaehun was matched with Washington and Lee University as an early decision admit though the Quest Bridge college matching program and he will start there in the fall of 2023. Right now, he is planning to major in chemistry and engineering. We are excited to see what Jaehun continues to do after graduation and at Washington and Lee University.
