Alesya Class of 2025
Where are you from?
Hello! I am from Muncie, Indiana. I have lived here all my life!
How did you first hear about the Academy?
I attended Burris Laboratory School from Kindergarten through my freshman year. Thus, I heard many of my friends talking about how their siblings or friends went to the Indiana Academy and really loved their time there. After hearing about their amazing experiences and the memories they made, I was very excited for when I would get to apply.
What made you decide to apply?
In addition to my friends, my brother also decided to attend the Indiana Academy for his Junior and Senior Year. Even from an outside perspective, it was truly amazing to see all of the students at the Academy be together like a family. Additionally, looking at some of the classes I could have the opportunity to take like Global Cinema and Ball State classes like Neuroscience made me decide to apply! I was also excited to run different clubs at the academy, be an Ambassador, and get to be a Peer Assistant.
What is your greatest memory about your time at the Academy?
My greatest memory is PA week my junior year. This was my first year as a residential student and my first year as a Peer Assistant. I will never forget the night I moved in when I got to meet all the SLC’s and get to know more about my fellow Peer Assistants. Working hard that week all together to make the bulletin boards and help all the new students feel welcome while also making new friends and getting to know all the SLC’s was truly a memorable experience for me.
What are some of your extracurricular activities?
I am currently President of the Spell Bowl Club and co-president of DECA! I am also a member of the Asian Student Union, Key Club, Gay-Straight Alliance, and other clubs. I am a Peer Assistant and an Indiana Academy Ambassador. I am a member of the National Honor Society. I partnered with Burris Laboratory School’s After School Care Program to develop a reading program entitled “Changing Lives One Book At A Time” where I go in weekly to read to the younger kids. I am also on the Girl’s Tennis team!
How has the Academy prepared you for life?
The Academy has given me an excellent foundation for my future. I have learned how to live in a dorm and how to be successful living on a college campus. I have learned the importance of asking for help and leaning on those around me for support. Most importantly, I now know the value of making memories I will never forget with my best friends!
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to obtain a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Neuroscience. Then, I hope to return to the Indiana Academy to work as a Student Life Counselor for a few years before obtaining my Master’s and PHD. After completing my education, I want to work full-time as a Professor of Psychology, and part time as a pediatric psychologist.
