Andrew Class of 2026

Some responses may be paraphrased for clarity.

Andrew is a senior (Class of 2026) from New Palestine. He discovered the Indiana Academy through his friend whose brother graduated from the Academy.

What made you decide to apply to the Academy?
“At my old school I almost felt bored where I wasn’t really branched out and stuck to what was comfortable for me. The Academy brought the idea of a fresh start, an opportunity that would push me outside of my comfort zone and encourage me to meet new people and try new things with plenty of new clubs, organizations, and events I never would have the ability to attend otherwise.”

Andrew is an active member of the Academy community. He serves as a peer assistant and as the secretary of the National Honors Society (NHS). After attending one meeting of the NHS, he knew he wanted to be a significant part of this program. Outside of these organizations, Andrew plays on the Burris-Academy varsity basketball team.

What do you like about being a residential student?
“I absolutely love being a residential student here at the Academy! Being able to live in an environment that is focused on learning is truly a blessing, as it is a lot easier to be held accountable and to hold study groups to truly understand the material of whatever class might be giving us trouble. Even though constantly being surrounded by learning can be an intimidating thing, it certainly has its fun moments! Whether it be school wide events like Acadathon, SLC-Lead programs, or even just going to dinner and playing cards with your friends, there is never a dull moment here at Wagoner Hall.”

Andrew’s favorite memory from his time at the Academy was Acadathon during his senior year. Acadathon is a week-long spirited competition organized by Student Life Counselors (SLCs) for Academy students, faculty, and staff. His favorite part of Acadathon was winning!

What are your plans after graduation?
“Ultimately, my goals after graduation are to follow in my great teachers’ footsteps, like Dr. Myers, Professor Buczek, and Mr. Schuh. I feel as if teaching is my calling, as being at the Academy showed me how much a teacher that cares about the students can lead to tons of success and understanding in the kids’ lives. I’ve been shown this by countless Academy teachers, so it is only right that I return the favor!”

For students interested in attending the Academy, Andrew recommends taking advantage of the unique opportunities offered, following your passions, and embracing the Indiana Academy community.
