Ann, IASMH Class of 2026

Ann Class of 2026

Some responses may be paraphrased for clarity.

Ann T. is a non-residential senior (class of 2026) from Muncie, IN. She first heard about the Indiana Academy in middle school and connected with an admissions counselor during her freshman year.

What made you decide to apply to the Indiana Academy?
“I decided to apply after attending a Shadow Day, and I immediately felt at home. I loved the dynamic of classes; everyone was so welcoming, and I could genuinely see myself thriving in the environment.”

Since the Academy offers the Indiana College Core, Ann will finish her first year of college during her senior year.

What do you like about being a non-residential (commuter) student?
“As a commuter student, I really appreciate being able to keep my school life and home life separate. I love being able to spend quality time with my family, while also getting a taste of independence by spending time in Wagoner Hall and taking advantage of all the opportunities the Academy has to offer.”

While Ann is on campus, she serves as a student ambassador, plays on the girls’ tennis team, and promotes a positive mental health community through Sources of Strength. She also is a member of the National Honor Society, which allows her to serve both the Academy and Muncie communities through leadership and community service.

How is the Academy preparing you for life?
“The Academy is preparing me for life by challenging me academically and helping me build skills like critical thinking and problem-solving. I have also learned how to manage my coursework alongside other time commitments.”

Ann has learned that it’s okay to reach out for help when needed. She is grateful to have learned these lessons during high school so that she can go to college better prepared.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in attending the Academy?
“Visit and try to immerse yourself into the class. Shadows sometimes get shy and don’t want to participate during class, but participating gives a good look at how the Academy would fit you. Use the day to your advantage.”

After graduation, Ann plans to attend college to study health sciences or a related field. While Ann is unsure of her long-term career goals, she is interested in optometry or dietetics. She is excited to explore her interests and find what path fits her.
