Ariel Class of 2023
Ariel (Class of 2023) has a wide variety of interests, and she is extremely active in the Academy and surrounding communities. Ariel quickly made a name for herself as a leader in several student organizations and Indiana-based organizations.
Prior to attending the Academy, Ariel resided in South Bend and attended a private online school with rigorous academic standards. Although this was a good fit, she missed the social component of high school. “I missed being in the room with teachers. I missed all the things that come with a physical environment for a school, and so that’s what kind of led me to the Academy, especially because I’d always wanted to go to a boarding school,” said Ariel.
After arriving, Ariel jumped in full force to everything the Academy offered. Her passion for activism led her to create The Core Issue, an online student newspaper (not the Academy’s official newspaper). She is the President of the Environmental Club and BETA Club, participates in Quiz Bowl and Academic Superbowl, is a student ambassador, Secretary of the National Honors Society and is a member of the Student Equity Council. Ariel also serves the Indiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council as the Legislative Liaison, which allows her to work with legislators as a youth voice on policy. Through this role, she has hosted webinars and proposed legislation for Indiana schools.
Ariel has several academic interests including policy making, mathematics, environmental studies, economics, and data science. She will attend William & Mary to pursue these interests with the goal of having a career in policy, data analysis, and sustainability. During her time at William & Mary, she will participate in the William & Mary St. Andrews Joint Degree Program. This is a selective program where students spend two years at St. Andrews in Scotland and two years at William & Mary. She will receive a degree with both schools’ insignias. We look forward to seeing what she continues to do in her career.
