Lorraine Class of 2026

Some responses may be paraphrased for clarity.

Lorraine is a residential senior (class of 2026) from White River Township. She first heard about the Academy when she received a postcard in the mail.

What made you decide to apply to the Academy?
“I decided to apply to the Academy because I had always wanted to go to a boarding school and was intrigued by the rigor of the courses.”

Lorraine likes the accessibility of being a residential student. When she needs help, she can visit her teachers in the same building as her living space. She can also see her friends frequently.

Outside of class, Lorraine serves as the co-president and co-founder of the Academy’s chapter of the Bring Change 2 Mind club, a club focused on breaking the stigma behind mental health. She is also the senior representative for the Indiana Academy Student Government, team manager for the boys’ basketball team, and a member of the National Honor Society.

How is the Academy preparing you for life after high school?
“The Academy is preparing me for life by teaching me how to live on my own. Learning to manage things independently and utilizing resources are major skills that I will carry with me throughout the rest of my life.”

Lorraine also notes the improvement in her communication skills while at the Academy and how she has learned to work even better with others. Because students at the Academy are more focused on their education and our faculty provide constructive feedback, she credits the community for giving her a supportive space for learning and personal growth.

What is your greatest memory at the Academy thus far?
“My greatest memory at the Academy so far was my junior-year Acadathon weekend. It was the first time I spent an entire weekend out of my room, and it helped me meet some of my best friends.”

While Lorraine actively participated in student life and extracurricular activities, she encourages future students to participate more in clubs. Looking back, she would have enjoyed leading a new club or joining more of the art-related clubs.

What advice would you offer to someone that comes to the Academy?
“Stay downstairs in the lounges longer than you might want to because you meet new people, and it gives you more of a family feel at the Academy.”

After graduating, Lorraine plans to attend college and study sports marketing and management.
