Academy Teacher Named Ball Brothers Foundation Excellence in Teaching Finalist

Heather Rogers, Associate Lecturer of Russian and German, was recently named a finalist for the Ball Brothers Foundation Excellence in Teaching award. This award honors a Delaware County teacher who excels in teaching. Although Heather was not selected as the winner, she was one of just three high school teachers in the county to be named a finalist and she received a grant to support her classes. Heather is the only member of the faculty who has been with the Academy since it opened in 1990. She is an incredible member of this community and an integral part of the school’s success!

Academic Super Bowl State Finals

On Monday, May 10, the Indiana Academy’s science and mathematics academic teams competed in a synchronous virtual competition with schools from around the state. Both teams took first place in our class!

Science Olympiad Team Advances to State

On Saturday, February 8, the Academy Science Olympiad team traveled to the Regional round of competition in Bloomington. The team won medals in twelve events, finished third overall, and qualified to advance to the state tournament.

Competing for the Academy were Carlie Butler, Lehan Hu, Komal Kumar, Evy Lee, Bony Li, Nichole Nguyen, Derek Park, Grace Reynolds, Kavin Saravanan, Abbi Smith, Maddy Witt, Robert Xu, Anna Yang, and Zhiyu Zhang. Mr. Mike Mayfield, Mr. Josh Ruark, and Ms. Heather Rogers accompanied the team.

Congratulations to all! The state tournament will be held in Lafayette on Saturday, March 21.


Academy Students Take Home Gold and Silver at Russian Olympiad

On Saturday, April 27, a group of Academy students Russian competed in the Russian Olympiad hosted by the Global and International Studies School at Indiana University in Bloomington.

Additionally, Jake White won the ACTR Slava Award for Outstanding Achievement for a non-hertiage speaker, and Anand Rathinasamy won the ACTR Slava Award for Outstanding Achievement for a heritage speaker.

National German Exam

Earlier this semester, students in the Academy German 202 class took the 2018 AATG National German Exam. The listed percentiles indicate the performance of students in comparison to all students (nation-wide) taking the exam for Level II.

Earning a Gold Medal:

Grace Moore — 98th percentile
Amy Gong — 94th percentile
Sara Ahmad — 93rd percentile
Isaac Solloway — 90th percentile
Collin Banasiak — 89th percentile

Earning a Silver Medal:

Congratulations to these students! This is a testament to their commitment and hard work in learning the German language and to the outstanding instruction and preparation they have received from Dr. Gislind Pentecost last year and Frau Rogers this year.
