Dr. Colin Beineke’s teaching and research interests include comics studies, adaptation theory, and narratology, with a focus on the role of comics editors, art across forms, and formalist close reading. Dr. Beineke’s writings have appeared in the journals The Los Angeles Review of Books, ImageText, The International Journal of Comic Art, and INKS: The Journal of the Comics Studies Society, and he has contributed chapters to the collections Comics Studies Here and Now and Artful Breakdowns: The Comics of Art Spiegelman. Dr. Beineke is co-editor of the forthcoming collection The Comics of Karen Berger: Portrait of the Editor as an Artist from the University of Mississippi Press. Having served on the executive board of the Comics Studies Society, Dr. Beineke is also a founder of its Graduate Student Caucus. An avid collector, Dr. Beineke is always looking to expand his collection of independent comics, and in addition to reading and conversing at coffee shops, Dr. Beineke enjoys spending time with his (spoiled rotten) pittie, Pepper, watching too many horror movies, and going to punk and metal shows.
