AP Summer Institute FAQs

We are planning for our 2022 APSI workshops to be offered in-person on the campus of Ball State University. If we would need to change to an online format, we will offer more details as soon as we have that information. We offered our 2021 APSI in-person and our 2020 APSI was in an online format, so we are able to handle either!

Check-in begins on Monday morning, and more details will be provided as we get closer to the event. Our typical class schedule starts at 8 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. However, we do give each instructor the flexibility to design a schedule that works best for their individual class, provided that they meet the minimum 30 contact hours required by the College Board. Your first day of class schedule may be altered due to check-in and/or welcome session.

If you are staying in residence hall housing, you can check into your room as early as 3 p.m. on Sunday. If you are arriving after check-in on Monday morning, we can make special arrangements for you to pick up your room key so you don’t miss anything – just let us know in advance. Check-out is by 8 a.m. on Thursday morning.

We accept credit cards, checks, and school purchase orders. To receive the $695 price you must register before July 1, 2022 with payment (credit card, check, or PO on file) in full required by that same date. Registrations made on are after July 1, 2022 are invoiced at $795 with payment in full required immediately.

All cancellations must be received by email, and those requested after June 1st are subject to a $100 non-refundable cancellation fee. Refunds will NOT be issued for cancellations received after July 1st. Please note that credit card refunds may be subject to an additional 5% non-refundable fee.

If you have not paid in full and/or do not have a valid PO on file by the morning of the workshop, you will not be permitted to attend the workshop.

We may accept late registrations provided that there is space in the session. You will receive an immediate confirmation email when you register. If you have not received a confirmation email, please contact us at outreach. Please do not assume that your school corporation has submitted the registration for you.

We use the email(s) you provided to the College Board in their Cvent system. We will communicate with you primarily by email, although we also like to have a telephone number in our files. Please note that some communication may take place after school is out of session, so it is important that we have an email address and telephone number for you (and any of your billing contacts!) that will allow us to reach you during the summer months.

We also recommend regularly checking your spam/junk folders as sometimes our emails may slip into that location!

If you have already paid for the in-person format and we would have to switch to online, we will refund you anything you’ve already paid for housing. If you already have a Purchase Order on file with housing included, we will send you and your billing contact an updated invoice reflecting the update.

We might provide a discounted rate should we have to move to an online format. If we did so, any participants who registered or paid at the higher price would be issued a refund for the difference.

The Indiana Academy, in coordination with Ball State University and in alignment with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Indiana State Department of Health, continues to take steps for the continued health and safety of our campus community. The University will continue to take steps to advance the health and safety of students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. Yes, CEUs are available. While we provide a certificate indicating your receipt of 30 contact hours of professional development, some school systems or state departments of education require a particular form marking those hours as Continuing Education Units. 3.0 CEUs are equivalent to 30 contact hours of professional development. We can provide you an official CEU certificate issued from Ball State University on request at no additional cost.

PGP Points are available from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). We provide a certificate indicating your receipt of 30 contact hours of professional development. Each contact hour is worth one PGP Point. The IDOE will accept the certificate provided as proof of your professional development and will apply PGP Points accordingly. If you are not an Indiana teacher, please check with your state’s Department of Education for their PGP requirements.

Please indicate any and all special needs on the registration form. All special needs (including dietary) should be addressed with the APSI Director, at 1-800-316-3163 x 2 or outreach. For example, if you have a severe nut allergy and cannot be in a room with nuts, please make sure that we are aware of the severity of your allergy.

Yes, you can purchase a conference/workshop guest pass for the university recreational facilities. The fee is $30 for a week-long pass. This pass will allow you to utilize two fitness centers, two swimming pools, indoor jogging tracks, and more. If you are staying in the residence hall, you may purchase a pass to use the residence hall fitness room for a one-time fee of $10 for the duration of the conference. The pass may be purchased at the residence hall desk with cash or check. They do not accept credit cards. We also find that our participants enjoy walking around the scenic Ball State University campus and surrounding neighborhoods, or on the Cardinal Greenway.

You will have access to coin-operated laundry facilities in the residence hall.

If you do not wish to stay in the residence hall, local options are available. A list of nearby hotels offering APSI discounts can be found under the Lodging page.

Unfortunately, we are unable to allow family members to stay in the residence halls with participants. Participants who wish to bring their families to Muncie must arrange hotel accommodations.

Ball State University offers the David Owsley Museum of Art, the fabulous Wheeler Orchid Collection, Christy Woods, and Glick Center for Glass – all within walking distance of our classrooms. Notable attractions in the Muncie area include Minnetrista Cultural Center & Oakhurst Gardens, and AMA’s National Model Aviation Museum. Participants who are bringing their families along might find that their children would enjoy spending the day at the Muncie Children’s Museum or Tuhey Pool while mom or dad are in class. Plan to dress comfortably and appropriately for a casual, educational environment. At times you may be walking on campus and should be prepared for it to be rather warm outside, but it can be cool in the air-conditioned classrooms and residence halls.

Please bring all personal items that you may need. Also, make sure to check emails from us and your AP consultant for requests specific to your workshop.
